Kiwi | Sydney Rescue Dog Photographer

One of my favourite rescuers lives a few streets away and has very similar taste in dogs to me, but almost every time I offer to photograph one of his charges they get adopted before the shoot. Miss Kiwi wasn’t so lucky, but that’s ok, ’cause I realllly wanted to meet her – what with her being a Staffy, and white – my favourite combination!

Kiwi is available for adoption through Fetching Dogs in Sydney. Her PetRescue profile is here.

Betty and Uma | Sydney Pet Photographer

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you might remember the raffle for pet owners in flood affected areas of Australia. Betty and Uma’s owners were the lucky winners of the grand prize – a photo-shoot, a 16×24″ canvas and a Ruthless Leather collar. Weather and other commitments kept sabotaging our efforts to organise a shoot, but last weekend we finally caught a break. We started off with a bit of a runaround in the park and then back to their house for glamour shots!

Doesn’t Betty just have the best smile?

Betty and Uma were very curious about the lens hood on my 24-70mm lens. I think they thought there were treats stashed in it!

Look out for Betty strutting her burgundy and aged brass Lone Rocker around the Inner West of Sydney!

Krystal - lol the top photo of Betty looks like Tim Vasudeva

Amstaff Specialty – Apr 2010 | Sydney Dog Photographer

Saturday was a double whammy for us at the American Staffordshire Terrier Club of NSW’s specialty. We had our second outing with our Ruthless Leather stall and it was also my first event as the official club photographer! It was held at Erskine Park which is in the West of Sydney. Every time I’ve been there it’s been stupidly hot and Saturday was no exception. Hence all the panting in the photos! I took over 1250 photos, but the majority are ringside so I won’t post them here.

This is Chato wearing a wide black and antique brass Rocknrolla with a matching lead. I love how it looks on him. It’s strong and masculine without being too macho.

Buster’s owners arranged to have some headshots taken during the lunch-break. Isn’t he stunning? I love his mask. To the right is his “sister”, Missy the Stafford, jumping around in a regular burgundy and silver Asteroid Belt collar with a matching narrow lead. She’s a bit of a clown!!

Of course I made a beeline for every puppy that I saw…

…even if they weren’t Amstaffs!

Hera from Skylarulz also asked me for some headshots of her two boys. On the left is Hemi and Troy is on the right. Apparently he’s always smiling so I didn’t even try to avoid getting tongue shots!

At the end of the day Dutch’s owner asked me to take some stacked shots. When I was finished the leash came off and they had some crazy time. Myself and Dave were laughing our hearts out for about fifteen minutes while they played. They have a great bond and even though they play rough, Dutch knew who was the boss. What a lovely social and well rounded boy he is. A great ambassador for the breed.

I saved the biggest tongue shot of all for last!!

Cazzie - OMG Ruth awesum pics as always hun … LOVE LOVE LOVE the smiling puppy and the frenchie bubs ♥

Lisa - GREAT SHOTS Ruth! I am envious… An Amstaff convention!!!!
*L

Ty - AH! I love the forth one! That smile is great!

Kelly Taylor - What a wonderful job you did!!!

It is great to see someone who truly has a PASSION for what they do, but most of all LOVES their dogs…Or anyone’s dogs for that matter!!!

Ruth you are fantastic and we deserving of the awards you have received. We look forward to you being the ASTC of NSW’s official club photographer for all our shows!!!

Ruth[less] - Thanks Kelly :)

Ian Jeffery - HAPPY STAFFIES EVERYWHERE!!! I love the grey pup with her eyse closed!

Her name was Lola | Sydney Dog Photographer

She was a Staffeeee. No yellow feathers and whatnot, but she did have some fancy dance moves!

I put a call out on my Facebook page for a medium-sized red dog to model a collar for the Ruthless Leather website. I asked for a Viszla or a Stafford, but I was open to other breeds. I also said the dog needed to live near me or be willing to travel. Lola’s owner answered excitedly that she had a red Staffy and she was happy to travel down from the Blue Mountains with her. I thought she was a bit mad to drive so far, but I’m so grateful that she did. Lola is such a great little dog. So good she’s bumped Angel off the top spot as my favourite Staffy! [Sorry Angel but you did just spew on the carpet again and then tunneled under the deck when I put you outside. Sigh.]

Like another two dogs that I know, Lola’s a little ball mad! Even though she had her own ball to play with, when that was put away to give her a chance to catch her breath, she went off and sniffed out an old tennis ball that’s seen better days and rolled around chewing on it! Her obsession came in handy when I needed her to stand still for collar photos! Look at the little paw lift, tooooo cuuuuute! [The slobbery piece of grass hanging out of her mouth, not so much maybe!]

Thanks Cally for making the big trek, it was really lovely to meet you both.

Katie - Oh she’s cute. Must be a Lola thing ;)

Janet Palmer - Oh Lola sounds like Scout… So so gorgeous :) look at that tongue I can hear her panting from here :) if there ever was a need for a “ball rescue dog” Scout & Lola would b perfect for the job :)

Ty - Great intro i laughed at the Lola line! Love the photos they are wonderful

Anita - She’s stunning! LOVE these shots!

alexa - She is so cute! I love those 1st two shots! Awesome!!

Ruth[less] - Thanks everyone!

Hannah - Oh, you made me laugh with the first line!

These are really beautiful photographs, love! I adore the first two – so much character.

Christine Pobke - OMG Ruth… that first shot is PRICELESS!!! :) Love these photographs, they’re amazing!! :)

[No] Angel

We adopted Angel about three months after we got Ivan. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a Stafford, but when she came bolting out of her run and jumped up and gave me a cuddle I knew she was exactly the kind of dog I wanted! She’s very loving, more than a little mischievous and an absolute character. She’s roughly four years old now but there’s still no sign of her growing up!

More photos of Angel can be viewed on Flickr.
