Sid and Vana | Sydney Cat Photographer

Mel was given a gift voucher for a photo session when she left her job at Hanrob many many months ago. She lives in a unit that doesn’t have a huge amount of natural light so she was hoping to train her cats to be ok outside. It didn’t go so well, so last week I took a deep breath and went to her apartment and hoped for the best! I don’t know what I was worried about, the cats were absolute pros and the light really wasn’t that bad. The only thing I wasn’t prepared for was the amount of scratches I’d be bringing home. I guess Happy Paws Training Treats are irresistible for cats too. And in fairness, it was wayyyyy past breakfast time!

Sid was a huge fan of the “look at the camera, I give you a treat” routine!

Vana preferred to be admired from a distance.

Imagine my joy when I was told the cats were allowed outside on the balcony! It made for a great backdrop.

I hope you like your photos Mel and Dean!

Limited Edition | Sydney Pet Photographer

Anyone that knows me will know how hard it’s been for me to keep this project a secret for the last few months! I’m relieved to finally be able to share the news with everyone… if you live in Sydney, look out for these images of mine in bus shelters around the city!

M&CSAATCHI, in conjunction with Adshel, are running a pro bono campaign for Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. The objective of the project is to raise funds for the Home and also generate awareness around the many cats and dogs within the Home that are waiting to be adopted. The name of the campaign is Limited Edition and will highlight the fact that these animals are literally Limited Editions and will be put down if they are not adopted. You can help by purchasing the print or adopting the animal.

Mel S - Wonderful Ruth, just wonderful!

David Couillard - Ruth, and all of the other photographers,

You have made an amazing donation of your time and talent.
I respect that from the bottom of my hart.

Thank you for helping these animals and putting yet another message on animal rescue and adoption.

Mandy Campbell - Awesome campaign, and what *stunning* images! Really beautiful. I (kinda) wished I lived in Sydney so I could see you work whilst driving around – it would make my day!

Betty and Uma | Sydney Pet Photographer

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you might remember the raffle for pet owners in flood affected areas of Australia. Betty and Uma’s owners were the lucky winners of the grand prize – a photo-shoot, a 16×24″ canvas and a Ruthless Leather collar. Weather and other commitments kept sabotaging our efforts to organise a shoot, but last weekend we finally caught a break. We started off with a bit of a runaround in the park and then back to their house for glamour shots!

Doesn’t Betty just have the best smile?

Betty and Uma were very curious about the lens hood on my 24-70mm lens. I think they thought there were treats stashed in it!

Look out for Betty strutting her burgundy and aged brass Lone Rocker around the Inner West of Sydney!

Krystal - lol the top photo of Betty looks like Tim Vasudeva

Flower and Holly | Sydney Dog Photographer

I was asked by Tim from Pet Rescue if I could take some photos of his pets. They’re setting up a new initiative called Pet Foster and each person that works there will have a picture of their pet on the back of their business card. I did a mini session in his courtyard last Thursday with the gorgeous Flower and Holly. I’m not sure which photo they’re going to go with yet, but here are a few of my faves.

Charlotte Reeves - Awww I’m in love with the kitty cat photo second from the bottom! Those whiskers, so long. Those eyes, so pretty!

Ruth[less] - Thanks :) Her whiskers were SOOOOO long!!

Anita - No kidding, those are the longest whiskers ever! Love the dog’s expression in that first shot:)

Wendy - Those whiskers are incredible! And those eyes… amazing. What a cool idea to have your pet on the back of your business card.

Serena - Love the first shot Ruth. gorgeous.

Linda Kitson - Just awesome Ruth, love them

Tim - Holly has had whisker-enhancement surgery. It’s a little-known cosmetic surgery for cats suffering from whiskers-envy, it basically utilises extensions from voluntary donor animals with excess whiskers.
The results are quite good, no? You wouldn’t have been able to tell they were Walrus whiskers otherwise if I hadn’t told you…..

Ruth[less] - Fascinating! lol

Not dogs!

On Monday I dug out my passport, bundled my navigator and husband into the car and headed North! I wanted to photograph some cats and kids for my portfolio and I knew Dru had both, so off we went.

After some tea and cake [nom, nom!] Gracie showed us her ultra swanky cubby house and her bedroom …

… before roping Dave into a game of hide and seek while I took some photos of the cats!

Neville lurrrved attention and would’ve made a great model, but he’s got a bit of an eye infection, so we decided to save his moment in the spotlight for another day.

Wayne’s still only a kitten, but he was great. I’ve never worked with cats before. He was patient and let me dangle food and ribbon in front of his face for ages till I got the shots I wanted!

Gertie wanted in on the action too:)

When I went back outside Gracie was still running around with Dave!

Of course the fact that Dru has a young Stafford was another reason I asked myself over!!
Every kid deserves a Stafford:)

And a Saint Bernard too maybe!!

Thanks Dru and Gracie and Norman and Esme and Gertie and Neville and Wayne and Trevor for a fun afternoon!

Katie - What gorgeous photos of a stunning family. Well done! Now, when are you coming to QLD? ;)

Ruth[less] - Thanks mate :) I've never been to Brissie, I'll have to make the trek someday!

Lofty - Great photos. Can't wait for the Neville shoot, that cat is the coolest.

disorder - Wow, I love this set of photos..
The squishy cat face ones made me smile : )

Kim - Really beautiful Ruthie. x

Ruth[less] - Thanks guys :)
