Hallowe’en competition time!

Are you dressing your dog up this Hallowe’en?
To celebrate the impending launch of my fundraiser calendar I’m going to hold a little photo competition for the best dressed pet. The winner will receive one of my A3 calendars plus postage to anywhere in the world.

How do I enter?
Upload your photo to the Ruthless Photos Facebook page.
Invite all your friends to like it.
The picture with the most likes wins.
Competition is open from now until 6pm [Sydney time] on Thursday 4 Nov.

How do I upload a photo?
To upload a photo go to the Ruthless Photos Facebook page and click in the box where it says “What’s on your mind”. Write a bit about your photo and then click the little photo icon underneath it to upload your photo. [If you're not already a fan, you'll need to click the like button at the top of the page before you can do anything.]

What if I don’t win and I want to buy a calendar?
They’ll be on sale from next Friday 5 Nov and they’re very limited edition. I’ll post the full details here.

Wendy - I just see I stole your line without knowing it. I posted a picture of Lacey the other day with almost the same line. I wasn’t copying! Promise! We had a vampire toy that used to say that and she constantly made it talk. :)

Ruth[less] - I still see no photos on my wall!!

ShortDog - If I get eaten by the dog…I blame you…..Attempt #3 of dressing Basil dog up commences!

Ruth[less] - Make one!!!

ShortDog - Shame I don’t have a costume to hand….!

Ruthless Leather Update #12

Here’s a quick update for anyone that might have missed all these tidbits on our Facebook page.

Every time Dave makes a design in a different colour combination I photograph it for the gallery on our website. [Which I updated recently, so if you sent us a photo of your dog it's probably there now!] Here are some recent favourites:

If the customer lives nearby I’ll sometimes deliver the order in person just so I can take a photo of the dog in their new bling! Here’s Flynn the Kelpie in his regular brown and antique brass Lone Ranger. Lots more photos of Flynn can be seen here!

Zeus the Amstaff in his wide brown and brass Rocknrolla with a nameplate. [Collar pictured above, top left.]

Charlie the Amstaff in the prize he won at the Sydney University Pet Fair. A wide brown, brass and amber Nightowl. Don’t we have the best looking clients?!

Some dates for your diary:
Ruthless Photos and Ruthless Leather are going to be at Mosman Pet’s Day Out on Sunday 24 October. If you’re on Facebook you can RSVP to the event here. We’ll also be at the Dogs NSW Spring Fair in Erskine Park on Saturday 20 November. You can RSVP to that here.

Please also note that the cut-off point for Ruthless Leather Christmas present orders is Friday 12 November. We’ll continue to take orders after those dates but Christmas delivery won’t be guaranteed. Remember that we also sell gift vouchers. They’re delivered by email, so they can be purchased at any time.

Ruth[less] - Thanks Kristin!

Kristin - These collars are so gorgeous!

Flynn the Kelpie | Sydney Pet Photographer

When I arrived for Flynn’s photoshoot he was already entertaining himself with a ball in the living room. The other three dogs he lives with are all a bit older with lower energy levels, so when he throws the ball in front of them and they don’t take it he just grabs it and throws it around for himself. I could have sat and watched him for hours, it was hilarious! So, if you think there’s a bit of a crazed, ball-obsessed, look in his eyes in a lot of these photos, you’re not wrong!

When we’d finished in the garden we went to a park to get some action shots. I was so excited to find another pile of woodchips there! My new favourite thing!

Little Riley even got in on the modeling action. Such a cutie!

What is it Flynn? Is it a ball? Fetchhhhhhhh…

Apparently he slept well that night. I know I did too, I was exhausted! Thanks for another fun shoot Adriana. I can’t wait until you get your next foster failure so I can come back for more!;)

Ruth[less] - Thanks Ty!

Ty - Ruth, these are phenomenal!

Deb - Total cuties, and I love the big grin jumping over the log. :)

Jennifer Metzger - Oh, he is so gorgeous! What a fun dog to photograph. Love the ones where he almost blends into the background.

Anda - Ruth, these are fantastic! Flynn the Kelpie is the perfect dog in my eyes :) You captured his energy and ball love so well! I’ve been living with a similar personality in the coat of a Border Collie for 5 years, and I can attest you did a fabulous job at documenting the beauty and joy of having fun with balls and natural obstacles.

Love your action shot at the end!

And the dizzying bokeh portraits need to be printed and proudly displayed – I am sure his owner will do that!

Riley is a total cutie :)

Bianca - Ruth, Ruth, Ruth…why have I never seen your work before. These are so awesome. The one of him jumping the log is amazing. I love them all so much!!!

Adriana - Love love love these pics of my fur kids!! You’re the best Ruth!

Katie Kolenberg - Seriously cool Ruth. LOVE the woodchip ones, but the one directly above it is my favourite. You captured so much personality!

Beck - wow, so cool! who knew you could get fantastic portrait like pics of dogs :O amazing!

Ian J - Awesome shots Ruth! I love that crazy Flynn guy, he looks fun! :)

ShortDog - What an awesome shoot, I love Kelpies!

susan wall - wow what lovely dogs, and your portraits of them really are fantastic! Wish you would travel this way!

Booker | Sydney Dog Photographer

At 17 years of age, Booker is by far the most senior dog I photographed to date. She’s deaf and a little senile, so the session took a very different pace to my usual shoots. We met in Centennial Park on Monday afternoon. The skies had finally cleared after three days of rain. I didn’t have a huge amount of time as she tires quickly, so, armed with her favourite snack – liver treats – off we went!

You see that smile? Entirely thanks to the food!

She liked to just plod along and do her own thing, but every now and again I’d wave a treat under her nose and her whole face would come to life.

After all the trekking through the greenery and around the woodchip she had a little sit down in the long grass and enjoyed the evening sun.

What a sweet old girl and a real pleasure to photograph, thanks Danielle!

Ty - Love the second shot!! Excellent set

Deb - she’s a beauty! great portraits.

Julie Austin - She’s a beauty! I love her ears. These are wonderful images of her that her people will treasure!

Ian J - Awww, what a lovely lady, she looks so happy with life :) Lovely photos as well Ruth :)

sarah - aawww what a sweet old girl…excellent photos of her :)

Ruth[less] - Thanks!

Kristin - What a gorgeous ol’ gal! Love the top right and bottom left especially :)

Another lens to add to the wishlist

Last weekend was a long weekend here in Sydney. I rented a Canon 35mm f1.4L to see how it compared to the 50mm f1.2L that I rented a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately it rained from Saturday morning until Monday afternoon so I didn’t get to give it much of a workout. I brought it with me when I went to visit my friend/client from SmallMediumLarge who owns Tiger the Yorkie. Her place is nice and bright, so the rain didn’t matter and Tiger makes a pretty cute subject.

I was hoping to be able to decide if I loved one lens more than the other and then buy one, but I still don’t know, so fingers crossed I win the Smile Photo Comp and I can buy both of them!! [Speaking of which, have you voted yet? There's only three days left.]

Ian J - CUUUTE!!! :) That 35mm looks awesome, i’d go for the 35 if i had a choice, as i love the wide angle look! :) Actually, i would probably go for the 24mm 1.4, that lens looks seriously amazing! :)
