I have enough dogs… | Sydney Dog Photographer

…but I really fell in love with one at the pound today! I think someone was scheming behind the scenes because every dog they brought out to be photographed I could see myself owning. I know we’re at max capacity here, so hopefully someone will see these pics and like these dogs enough to give them a home.

Today was about getting new profile pics for some long termers at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home in Carlton.

Binks the 4yo Greyhound has been there for six months and Brutus the 2yo Amstaff x has been there for eight months. Greyhounds are always slow to find homes due to the common misconception that they’re aggressive [the law in NSW requires them to be muzzled in public] and a high energy breed. Binks was so lovely, I really hope he finds a home soon. Big black dogs are also notoriously slow to rehome. Fingers crossed someone can see past the stereotype and take the time to get to know Brutus. He would make someone a wonderful pet. Hasn’t he got the best ears!

George the 2yo Spaniel x has been there for six months. He’s a feisty little thing, but he’s as cute as a button! How he’s been overlooked for so long is beyond me. Just look at that smile!!!

At eight months old, Sarge and Zack are only babies. They were dumped at the vets when they were three months old and they’ve been at the pound ever since. They’re brothers and they’re looking for a home together. They were hard to photograph as they were so busy playing with each other! Adorable little scruffers, the pair of them!

Kudos wasn’t supposed to be photographed today as he’s only been there for two months, so strictly speaking he’s not a long termer yet. When I was waiting for George to be brought out I saw him being walked by a volunteer. I made a beeline for him cause I’m somewhat obsessed with white bull breeds! I asked if I could photograph him too. He stole my heart. I’m absolutely besotted with him so I really hope someone I know sees this photo and adopts him so I get to have regular cuddles! Kudos is only eight months old. He’s a Bull Terrier x and he’s partially deaf. I think I love him!

Here are the links to each of the dog’s adoption profiles on Pet Rescue. Binks, Brutus, George, Zack and Sarge and Kudos.

Lisa - These are great pics Ruth, and I love your “I have enough dogs” mantra… I hear you totally…. but… that white boy with the paper…. okay, I’ll stop!

Ruth[less] - No one’s asked me to photograph the cats! I guess the dogs were more in need of good photos. Here’s one I took yesterday though, just for you ;)

Mable - Nice of you to try and help the dogs stuck in the pound. However, how about some photos of the cats. They’re equally in need of homes.

TerraNik - Kudos is a real cutie!! I can see exactly why you fell for him!!

Serena - Wow Kudos is super cute. Great captures. I cant visit pounds due to seeing all the dogs needing homes. Must be heartbreaking. I hope they all find loving homes.

Ruth[less] - It was hard, but I have no choice!

Janet Palmer - Your so strong!! I’d fail miserably leaving those Brutus or Kudos! Gorgeous gorgeous photos :)

Ruth[less] - Probably better off than he’d be in a lot of homes then!

Leanne - Oh luckily he’s alright with it, he knows not much else except for a sh*tty life previous, he gets walks, love, cuddles, clean, warmth and he goes to training classes every week which he just LOVES!

Ruth[less] - Wow, that really is long-term, far out, how sad to live in kennels for that long.

Leanne - I always find it odd when a rescue has ‘long termers’[not one bit a critiscm, would LOVE this to always be the case] and they’re there for 6months. Sadly long termers at the rescue I help out at start at the longest with 3years, and the average ‘long term’ starting at around a year. On average the length of stay for the dogs is 3months.
Quite a contrast.

It’s not a country thing either as others even nearby have better homing than us.

Oh and pits are banned here :( with fear gorgeous staffs may end up that way soon if the laws get anymore screwed!

Ruth[less] - I think it has something to do with prey drive. It’s a Draconian law. Greyhound adoption groups are campaigning to have it removed.

tee4tia - fab shots of these homeless dogs. I have to say that knowing greyhounds, they are couch potatoes at home and one of the most loving dogs I know. hope they all find homes soon, it’s heartbreaking.

Wendy - Greyhounds need to be muzzled in public??? Weird! I’ve never even heard of a greyhound biting someone. The ones I’ve met have been so sweet and mellow (except for the puppy – she was sweet and wild!) We have at least one province where pitties (or maybe it is all bully breeds) need to be muzzled. :(
