Seniors and Silkies

As one of my New Year’s Resolutions I offered some time to rescue groups in my area, taking photographs of their
dogs to put on adoption websites. The first two groups to take me up on my offer were Senior Dogs Rescue and
Silky Rescue Australia.

It wasn’t an easy task photographing ten untrained dogs in an hour, but I wanted to put a few up here all-the-same.
If only to highlight the great work that the two groups do with very limited resources. They’re both funded by private donations, so if you’ve any money left over from Christmas I’m sure they could put it to good use!

Serena - Oh my goodness to the top right. Good on you for opening your heart in photographing to help get them new homes Ruth. These pic’s will help for sure, great job.

Ruth[less] - Her name’s KittyKat. She was in a bad way when she was rescued from the pound. Her hair was so badly matted her two front legs were joined together. When they trimmed her face hair back they found her tongue had hair matted around the centre of it and the blood supply to her tongue was cut off and it was black and almost dead. She’s lucky she didn’t lose it.

I only gave a few hours of my time. The real heroes are Linda and Anna, they devote their entire lives to these dogs.

Dionne - Oh Ruth- they are all heartbreakingly gorgeous! Both the dogs and your photos.
Poor kittyKat… I just want to cry.

Kristen - I love these photos! I saw this linked on Anna’s facebook page. You’ve really done a great thing here:) If only I had your photography skills to photograph my ever moving rescue rats! – any tips on how to catch fast moving critters on film?

Love your work. It’s like you’ve captuered their little personalities and given them hope for the future:)

Steve Collins - Such a great idea and you did them proud – you’ve got me thinking now!

Ruth[less] - Thanks! I generally use treats or toys to get their attention. I use a high shutter speed too cause they don’t stand still for long!

Ruth[less] - Thanks Steve! You should definitely try it :D Not only would they find homes, they’d probably get modeling contracts too!! lol

Julia - Ruth, I’m a friend of Anna’s who moved to America a year and a half ago. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing this work. The shots are absolutely beautiful, and the special little seniors need all the help they can get to find forever homes. They are so often overlooked which is beyond me because they are the easiest dogs you can imagine! Sometimes a gorgeous photo can make all the difference in finding the right family, and you’ve just taken several amazing ones! Well done. P.S. You should photograph some Greyhounds. They need lots of help, too, and they are amazing subjects for photographs!

Ruth[less] - Thanks Julia!

Dogs Across Australia - Great photos that capture their personalities.
Love them all, but the little Chi. seems especially sweet.

Wendy - I feel your pain with the untrained dogs in a short period of time. I have a hard time getting the un-neutered boys at the Animal Shelter to stop sniffing pee long enough to just lift their head! Great pictures. They are all so cute.

Lisa - awesome work!

Ronan the water baby

We relieved my cousin of his kids today. It was stinkin’ hot here – almost 40 degrees celsius – so we invited ourselves over to my neighbour’s pool to cool down.

This is Ronan. I love to photograph him, he’s quite the character! He’s going to break some hearts when he grows up!!

New Year’s resolutions

Ok, so I’m eight days late, but I’ve been very busy making my shiny new blog. Isn’t it pretty?

Apart from the usual “go on a diet”, “eat healthier”, “save money” type resolutions that I make and break every year, I’ve decided to throw in a few extras … which I won’t break. Really, I won’t!!

– I’m embarking on 52 weeks of Chopper again. I started half way through last year and missed several weeks, but this year I’m going to commit to it. The photo above is 1/52. Stay tuned for the next 51!

– I’m also offering my photography skills to any animal rescue groups in or around the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. I’ve already had two small groups express an interest, but if you know of any others that need help getting photos of their animals to put on adoption websites please tell them to contact me.

Serena - I like your new blog:)

Ruth[less] - Thanks!

Anita - Very impressed with the blog! I have zero idea how to customize my ultra boring blog (I can handle myself around html quite well, but stylesheets/php is a whole different story!) so needless to say I’m quite jealous! ;)

Ruth[less] - Don’t be! I’ve emailed you.

Deb Cronheim - Awesome you are using your photography to give back. :)

Ruth[less] - Thanks Deb! We used to foster, but since keeping Chopper and Trixie we can’t do that anymore. No room! I wanted to do something, so hopefully this helps in some way :)

Linda Kitson - Awesome photos, love the clean look of them. I would also love to do what you have done re the photo with some of the welfare groups down here, can you give me any tips on how to approach them, as I would love to give back, but also don’t have any more room at the inn.

Ruth[less] - I’ll email you!

Sally - Love your site and will return regularly, well also post the appropriate picture sometime next week (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
Weve also done a lot of fostering off our own bat and enjoy doing a lot of photography with our own zoo.If your ever up the Snowies – do drop in.

Kim - I love this photo – very funny!
